Eli Delventhal

Profile
I am a college graduate with an atypical education: a major in computer science and a minor in creative writing. This balance between two different disciplines, combined with a fascination for the creative use of technology, reveals who I am and what my potential may be. In addition, my involvement with leading trips into the outdoors and the honors I have received in every field I have been devoted to highlights some of the more unique aspects of my personality.

I'm pursuing a career as a software engineer in a dynamic and interesting area. Whether the company that employs me is well established or is a start-up is of little consequence to me. I am willing to start at the beginning with an understanding that as I prove my worth to this company it will reward me accordingly.

EDUCATION
University of Redlands, Redlands, CA 2004-2008
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science, minor in Creative Writing. Cumulative GPA of 3.8, and a GPA of 3.95 in major/minor.
Research Project in PHP/MySQL, University of Redlands, Redlands, CA 2007
I created slyhawk.com for the University of Redlands summer research project, which is a website for exchanging items amongst other people in the same area or school. Although the site is unfinished, it's a good indicator of the quality of web applications I can create.
Developer, Hobbyist 2000-2008
I have created applications that range from a program that records and reproduces keystrokes and mouse movement to a full-scale role playing game engine and level editor. I have been involved in a number of timed game programming contests, including Ludum Dare, Retro Remakes, Java 4k Games, and JGO Comp. I have independently programmed more than 25 different games and applications.
Experience
Co-Founder and Programmer, Raw Meat Games, San Francisco, CA 2008-2009
Raw Meat Games is a small (5 employees) startup game developer in San Francisco. Although we have not published any games yet, our first game, Playing In Traffic, is currently making the circuit through prospective publishers. We like to describe our work as the next generation of casual games - that is, casual games that have the production values and depth of AAA game titles. Between all members of the team, we have over 50 years of game development experience. Access to the company website is available upon request.
Team Producer and Instructor, University of Redlands, Redlands, CA 2007-2008
Over the period of two semesters, I designed, created, and taught a 4-credit course at the University of Redlands called All-Access Video Game Design. The course combined 17 programmers, artists, and writers into a large team that simulated the real video game environment. The students had various skill levels, and so instructing less experienced programmers was necessary. I performed all software engineering and planning for the entire game structure before the class began, assigning individual team leaders to distribute each week's work. I also monitored all progress - which meant fixing bugs, resolving conflicts, creating a solid team atmosphere, and organizing progress.
Visual Resources Coordinator, University of Redlands, Redlands, CA 2005-2008
I was in charge of keeping the LunaImaging Insight server up and running and training others in how to use it. Above all else, this required computer troubleshooting ability and adaptability; I needed to use Java, Apache, MySQL, and many other technologies.
Trip Leader, Adventures Cross Country, Mill Valley, CA and Costa Rica 2008
Responsible for leading 15 high school students on a 21-day outdoor service trip to Costa Rica. This involves being accountable for all medical matters, transportation, group dynamics, planning itinerary, and providing anything else that the participants may need.
Web Programmer and Designer, Freelance 2007
I enhanced other people's PHP/HTML/MySQL code as well as created full websites from scratch for various clients. This meant requirements gathering, software engineering, and programming. I also interacted with customers, met deadlines, and addressed complications with different types of software (MSSQL vs MySQL, ASP vs PHP, etc.).
